The Education Department is excited at the opportunity to play a central role in Brown’s response to the report out of the Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice

A key portion of President Simmons’ response to the Committee report is the establishment of a tuition waiver program for master’s students in the department. Beginning in the 2008-09 Academic Year, the University will offer free tuition each year to up to ten admitted students who, after receipt of a Master’s Degree in Urban Education Policy or a Master of Arts in Teaching, serve urban public schools in Providence and surrounding areas for a minimum of three years. As the program gets under way and proves helpful, additional resources may be allocated for this purpose.
